Frequently Asked Questions
Can I change my schedule?
Although we
work very hard to accommodate all of your schedule requests, we are aware
that you may still need to make some adjustments. You have three weeks to
request any changes that you believe will better your educational
experience. However, due to class size limitations and class balancing, we
cannot guarantee all changes. All changes must go through the
counseling office.
After three
weeks, you will not be able to add a new course except study hall, which
receives no credit, or teacherÕs aide.
Can I change teachers?
If you have
previously had a class with the teacher, you may request a change, but the
change is not guaranteed. If
you havenÕt previously had this teacher for a class, you and a parent must
meet with the teacher to try and solve the problem. If after meeting with the teacher,
the problem isnÕt solved, you may request a teacher change through your
assigned Asst. Principal.
Administrators will determine if the change will be made. Teacher change requests may still
be denied even if a parent/teacher/administrator conference takes
place. No changes will be made
unless there is space available in another class.
How late in the semester can I drop a class?
A student may
drop a class up to the sixth week in the semester without the course or
grade appearing on the transcript. However, after the sixth week it is the
teacherÕs discretion to drop a student with a NM (No Mark) or F. The NM appears on the transcript
but is not calculated into the GPA. The F appears on the transcript and is calculated
into the GPA.
Does playing a sport count for PE credits?
You are
eligible to earn 5 PE credits if you play a sport in your sophomore, junior
or senior year. You may earn a
total of 10 Independent Study PE credits. Students must sign up with the Independent Study
Coordinator and meet all requirements in order to earn credits. You cannot
be currently enrolled in Study Hall, Aiding, or another PE class at the
same time as the sport you are playing for credit. You cannot earn
Independent PE credits if you have already received 20 PE credits.
Can I take summer school?
The SRVUSD
high summer school program is designed to offer courses for students
needing academic remediation. This means only students needing to repeat a
course that they have failed or earned a "D", or for those
students who are behind in graduation credits may take summer school
classes. The summer school program does not offer opportunities for
students who want to take courses in order to accelerate their
academic program.
How do I take courses at community college?
You may take
a community college course if a similar class is not taught at California
High School. Concurrent enrollment forms are available in the counseling
office or at the college. Students who are currently in the 9th
or 10th grade must wait until the first day of class to enroll
if there is space.
I'm failing a class, how can I get help?
