PRIOR to tryouts, each athlete must turn in a completed Athletic Registration Packet to the Athletic Account Clerk or the Bookkeeper.  Forms may be picked up outside the Account ClerkÕs office or on-line at http://www.chs.srvusd.k12.ca.us/chshomepage/sports/coaches.html.  When all forms have been completed and turned-in, the athlete will receive a Yellow Athletic Clearance Slip.  This is to be given to the

Coach at the first tryout.  All coaches have been instructed NOT to allow a student to tryout without this yellow

clearance slip.

The following forms constitute a completed Athletic Registration Packet:

*1. Athletic Parent/Guardian Consent/Proof of Insurance – Please fill out completely.  A Parent/GuardianÕs signature is required in two places.

*2. Pre-Participation Medical Examination and Clearance - A medical clearance is good for one calendar year from the date of the doctorÕs signature on the form.  SRVUSD policy states that only a medical doctor (MD) can administer a physical examination for CHS athletes.  Signatures by Nurse Practitioners or Chiropractors will not be accepted.  If a Nurse Practitioner performs the physical, a doctor still must sign the form.  Please have the doctorÕs office stamp and date this form including the physicianÕs phone number.  It is strongly recommended that the physical exam be scheduled during the summer months to minimize classroom absenteeism.  If the clearance expires during the season, the athlete will not be able to continue to participate until an updated clearance is submitted.  It is suggested that a photocopy of the Medical Examination and Clearance form be kept for your records.

*3. Parental Permission for Field Trip and Emergency Treatment Form – Each coach & driver will carry this form.  Please make sure that it is filled out completely and signed.

*4. NCS Ejection Form – Requires the studentÕs name, signature and date.

*5. Code of Conduct and Steroid Policy – The studentÕs and parent/guardianÕs signatures are needed.

ELIGIBILITY: It is a privilege, not a right, to participate in any extra-curricular activity.  To be eligible to tryout for any sport, SRVUSD mandates that all athletes have a 2.0 GPA or higher based on their last quarterÕs grades.  A 2.0 GPA or higher must be maintained throughout the season or the athlete will become ineligible to participate.

TURN-IN DATES: Turn in the completed packet to the Athletic Account Clerk or Bookkeeper from 10:00 – 2:00.  You may submit these forms:

Fall Sports: August 3rd – 11th  9 am - 12 noon only (Aug. 17th First day of Tryouts)

Winter Sports: October 19th – November 2nd (Nov. 9th First day of Tryouts)

Spring Sports: January 18th – Feb 1st (Feb. 8th First day of Tryouts)

MenÕs Volleyball

Cal continues to dominate EBAL, with a record of 14-5, EBAL 9-1. Cal has big wins over Monte Vista, and has a season split with Foothill, with Cal winning one and Foothill winning the other. The team consensus is that Foothill is the only team standing in their way to an NCS title.

Softball

Cal continues to struggle in EBAL with numerous injuries and youth. The Grizzlies have been without starters junior second basemen Mariah Nesbit and senior infielder Colleen Moen throughout the season. Cal has relied on senior pitcher Krista Miller and senior catcher Christie Taylor to carry them and hopefully earn an NCS birth.

Baseball

The Grizzlies baseball team has had its ups and downs but is in a prime position for an NCS berth. Cal solidified a better than .500 average with a win over Amador on April 24. Senior Kyle Gallegos threw a complete game and had two hits to lead the Grizzlies. Kyle has been the team leader all season and is a EBAL league leader in batting average.

MenÕs Golf

The menÕs golf team has been off to a rocky start in the first half of EBAL.  Though the team is playing fairly well, the Grizzlies seem to fall just short in matches, as their 3-6 record indicates. The teamÕs most recent loss was on March 31, when Foothill won 190-197 at Castlewood. Senior Ryan Smith shot 37, followed by junior Justin Haley (39) and senior Jordan Johnson (40).

MenÕs Lacrosse

The menÕs lacrosse team has been on a non-stop scoring streak and is off to a decent start this season. Cal is 7-7-1, 2-6-0 EBAL, so far. The Grizzlies hot non-league start failed to carry over to the EBAL season as Cal has struggled. Cal suffered yet another loss to  last yearÕs NCS runner up and this years EBALÕs current leader  De La Salle on 17-8 on April 7. Cal crushed Granada on April 3, defeating them 18-6 for their second win in EBAL.

 WomenÕs Lacrosse

With only two losses in EBAL and high hopes for post season success, womenÕs lacrosse is roaring into the second half of season. Cal (6-2 EBAL, 10-3 overall) has won its last three games against Amador, Granada and Livermore. Although the Grizzlies started league play with three straight wins, they suffered a hard 15-7 loss on March 23 to Monte Vista, which remains undefeated.

Swim and Dive

The GrizzliesÕ swimming and diving teams seem to be reaching success through the spirit and motivated attitude of the athletes. Much to the GrizzliesÕ surprise, both the men and womenÕs teams beat Foothill on March 20, with several swimmers placing in the top three for their events. Cal will hope to carry these successes to a team NCS birth.

Track and Field

The Grizzlies track team  is hoping to send several of their runners to the state meet at the beginning of June this year. The girlÕs team has continued their success, by beating Monte Vista on April 2 to improve its record to 3-0 EBAL. The menÕs team fell just short against Monte Vista, falling to 1-2 in the always tough EBAL.

MenÕs Tennis

The menÕs tennis team is rolling through the competition, but its chances of achieving its goal of winning a league title have vanished.

Despite winning two of its last three games to position itself near the top of the league standings, Cal (14-2) is a longshot to pass undefeated Monte Vista and win league.
